The alt button does work as the option key whist restarting in order to switch to windows, all you need to do is hold it until you see the switch menu.

I am trying to empty trash on my macbook pro. Some of the files in there are locked. I am advised to hold the option key when selecting empty trash, but this does not seem to work. Even when I get info and unlock the files, I get the same message that the file is locked! Help....

I've tried holding down the alt key to delete files after the trash says it can't because they're locked. Now i get an error code -50 do you know what that means? Thanks

Re emptying locked Trash items on Macbook Pro - thanks for the tips. When I used the ALT key & EMPTY in upper right corner of Trash, this worked. So the ALT key appears to be the OPTION key!

Solution to all your problem with emptying trash: Log in as administrator and start Terminal. Type the following two lines:
admin$ ebay thiscomputer sell
admin$ pc buy
You will never have any problems again emptying trash. This solves also a number of other problems including slow operation, frequent crashes, and incompatibility. May save some money too. However, do not run this script if your priority is aesthetics and design.

Hi wise guy,
Thanks a lot for the script. I ran it and realized that it also reduces the amount of lies about the product that come from the manufacturer. Too bad for loosing the design, though.

What?! Everyone knows that mac is more stable and better OS than pc.

Everyone repeats after Steve "Mac is better than PC". But, knowing is something different. This includes testing, analysis etc...
